What’s Hot

  • Director Jeethu Joseph, already known for his acclaimed Memories, makes an impressive mark with Drishyam which has all the ingredients needed for a crime thriller in the right mix. The huge plus of Drishyam is its simplicity thanks to a smart and simple approach he has taken to write its screenplay. He doesn’t dramatise the climax and that makes it cause an even bigger impact.
  • Mohanlal is not called the ‘Complete Actor’ for nothing. In the film, he demonstrates how underplaying can be a huge asset if played to perfection. He lives as the responsible family head Georgekutty showing subtle variations in body language before and after the ‘incident’. The efforts from Meena & the children are quite impressive too.
  • The film’s supporting cast gives us a nice flavour of Kerala & so do the spectacular visuals of the scenic green mountains around Thodupuzha, thanks to mighty work from cinematographer Sujith Vassudev.
  • Ayoob Khan’s editing backs the screenplay well & the minimalist music by Anil & Vinu is apt for the film’s setting.
  • Jeethu’s dialogue writing skills are impressive too, with the family-based conversations sounding as realistic and pleasing as they come.

What’s Not

  • The scene where he talks about the ‘uninvited guest’ to the IPS family, though touches and sweeps one off emotionally, doesn’t go in line with the shrewdness the character displays in the film.

Drishyam is a well-rounded thriller that makes a pressing case of how a calm & observant mind can help overcome the most difficult of situations.
