88th Academy Awards Roundup
This year, there have been 122 nominations spread across 24 categories. Alejandro G. Inarritu follows his dream 2015 with another such year on a nomination spree, earning 12 nominations for his astonishing presentation of survival in the wilderness through his The Revenant & close on its heels is George Miller's eccentric ride Mad Max: Fury Road, earning 10 nominations for its technical excellence. The awards ceremony will be hosted by actor Chris Rock, who has been there, done that once back in 2005. A star familiar to the stage seems to have been chosen, probably, after lessons learnt from the nervy show Neil Patrick Harris put together in last year's ceremony.
Inarritu's film getting nominated is not the only thing that this year's edition of the Oscars has in common with that of 2015. The furore on the opinion that the non-white race has been sidelined has grown popular yet again with the 'Yo Oscars, so white!' campaign attempting to play spoil-sport to the legacy that the Awards carry. Such outrage is not totally uncalled for. For only a third time in the last 20 years but quite remarkably twice in 2 successive years, all 20 Actor nominations have gone to Whites.
The snubbing of Spielberg and, on a more humorous note, that of the Bear that Leonardo gets to fight with & the possible honour for Philadelphia's son Rocky Balboa a.k.a. Sylvester Stallone have dominated the social media space! The entire world and the satellites orbiting it seem to be behind Leonardo in his pursuit of the Award he has been knocking the doors at, for years now. The question is, Is his knock going to be answered come tomorrow?!
We have come up with an exclusive coverage of movies providing information on number & categories of their nominations linking our reviews of them on our Oscars Landing page. The couch potatoes in you could use this as a primer to gear yourselves up for watching the spectacle unfold tomorrow. Share the word with the cinephiles on your social networks as well.
