Kabali (Tamil, 2016)
This is not a movie for the die-hard Rajni fans expecting their hero to whoop the baddies, bring the roof down with his comic sense or play the universe savior – but this is one for those who would love to see Rajni in a matured role that prognosticates his abilities on screen - what the star is capable of at this stage of his career in a well-presented story. Is our movie-watching public mature enough to understand and accept that this is one of the better performances of a star who does more than enough even without doing what he usually does? – that is something that the money coffers will answer.
Vetrivel (Tamil, 2016)
Vetrivel is that common man you might find in every village – moderately educated, a good samaritan, helps people at the drop of a hat, loves his family, willing to sacrifice beyond belief to keep his loved ones happy and capable of turning into a mean-machine if his own people are in harm’s way. However, in spite of such a predictable protagonist, the film shines due to some excellent writing, well-rounded character arcs and the absence of superfluous elements, making it a worthy watch.
Maruthu (Tamil, 2016)
Maruthu has a fabulous plot that is moved by some strong women. However, the fact that the film turns extremely predictable once the plot unravels, pulls down the film majorly. Still, the film is quite a good watch!
Jackson Durai (Tamil, 2016)
Despite the visual appeal courtesy of stellar shows from the art, cinematography and costume departments, the lack of a purposeful narrative fails to back them up with the mediocre execution making Jackson Durai a grand mess!
Enakku Innoru Per Irukku (Tamil, 2016)
'Enakku Innoru Per Iruku' belongs to the 'mindless comedy' genre which is saved by the plethora of strong supporting actors delivering gag after gag which work most of the times.
