Ecstasy (Tamil, 2015) | Short Film Review

Almost 70 seconds into this 5 minutes-long, short film there is just a monologue with a very bleak voice narrating the monotony of her life. But at the end of 5 minutes this charming little creation from Prabanchan & Team satisfies you technically as well as thematically.

It shows that there has attention given to detail not only because the lady’s expressions gets progressively brighter over the course of the film but also the scale of the confidence in her narration grows along with it. The establishment-conflict-resolution template has also been used effectively with the “I know that look” dialogue hitting the bull’s eye with precision. While generally food-porn films can end up giving a nauseating effect when there are slow motion shots in abundance, the creator here plays a neat trick by employing quick cuts without any visible ramp in the shots thereby creating a positive impression on the viewer.

Considering the effect achieved through a small knot & a minimal run-time, this is quite a fabulous work of art!
