What’s Hot

  • Extreme sports are difficult to capture on camera given that they look extreme only when performed in unimaginable terrains. In that vein, the camera work along with the editing have managed to give an edge of the seat experience to the viewer with some stunning landscapes and breathtaking angles. For a change, the 3-D also accentuated the visual experience.
  • The stunts though performed by trained professionals still manage to give an adrenaline rush to the viewer. The sheer heights & depths to which these stuntmen go to makes us take our hats off to them whether they performed them with or without gear. While there might have been a significant amount of VFX work involved, none of them are recognizable on screen which is a feather in the gap of the technical crew.
  • The Music & Sound design departments play a vital role in bringing the stunt sequences to life. The sound of the waves, waterfalls, dirt-bikes, and the force of wind in the mountains have been captured in spectacular fashion.

What’s Not

  • A film’s lifeline is its core plot line which has been conveniently forgotten in this movie with the entire focus being given to capturing the awesomeness of the stunts. As a result, there are many moments where the ambition of the protagonist remains unclear leaving the audience to just bide their time until the next glorious stunt is attempted.
  • The audience are never given the chance to truly invest in the characters given the stop-start nature of the screenplay and the uninspiring dialogues. This is precisely what made another recent film based on a quest to do something unthinkable, The Walk , click with the audience.

Verdict

Verdict Stamp

Point Break is one of those that can market itself just by using the marvelous stunt sequences on show. However, a bunch of daredevilry cobbled together don’t make for an engaging film and as a result the overall movie falls flat.
