Orange Mittai is one of those personally-made films where the Director & Vijay Sethupathi have been able to stay subtle in all departments, yet never stray to being indulgent. Watch it for Vijay Sethupathi’s no-holds-barred performance & the restrained dialogues.
Through Bajrangi Bhaijaan, its makers have proved that one can look beyond the excuse of having to make a tactless story for a commercial star & fit that star into a story that can be emotional and have ample scope for at least two other lead characters. But don’t expect a classic – there are constraints!
Armed with a core consisting of unique characters from within the mind of an adolescent girl and powered by captivating visuals and details, ‘Inside-Out’ turns out to be an innovatively perceived story that shatters all myths of the dwindling Pixar magic and is destined to evoke pure All-out fun any which way you look at it!
“Naalu Policeum Nalla irundha oorum” on the outside, can look to be quite the typical comedy based commercial movies that we are used to see in Tamil Cinema, but has quite something different to offer if we care to look closely, especially with the kind of climax it features. A definite offering of enjoyable laughs, this is one quirkily funny movie that you won’t regret watching!
Southpaw is all about a boxer who does not know how to defend, becomes an undisputed undefeated world champion and loses it when he loses the most prized possession of his life. If you are able to conceive how he recovers to learn defense in his final push for success, this movie is for you, but otherwise, its just a wild swing that misses the target!
While watching Woody Allen’s Radio Days, in spite of the language being English, I found myself increasingly unable to relate to the American radio scene of 1930s & 1940s. All I could map on to were the songs I used to record on to an Audio cassette from Akashvani) radio during my school days & with the ascent of Satellite TV (M TV, Channel V), the custom-made cassettes that I got recorded by paying Rs. 60 per cassette to ‘Magnum Audio’ consisting of songs from America to Caribbean to Indipop to Bollywood to Raja-Rahman and the like.
Masaan is an audacious tale of mistakes, mishaps & redemption in life. The perfect choice of locations (Banares for letting go & Allahabad for confluence), able performances from the cast and the script replete with other symbolic subtleties make it a classic debut for its promising director.
Every now and then, there comes a movie which makes you relive your yesteryears, something that instigates you to call up your old friend, look for your old chest filled with memories. Premam is one such extravaganza which would make you relive your past and feel happy in the end.
Kingsman has heroes who are classy & perform action at ease, has a conniving villain who can send the world into a whirl with his ideas. It has other elements in it to fall into the action genre of spy-thrillers.If only, the basis for the villain & the treatment of climax were better!
Killa is a highly endearing and nostalgia inducing tale of a kid who tries to adapt to his fast-changing surroundings. The film is poetic thanks to the wonderfully defined characters & the Konkan setup that form the base from which it takes us through a trip from the perspective of its protagonist.
