Suspects – The Encounter (Tamil, 2015) | Short Film Review

At just 220 seconds, ‘Suspects’ is one of those films that will not test your patience. The initial sounds & very first shot sort of prepare the viewer for a brutal, violent couple of minutes. Although there is not much of a plot, the maker has taken pains on the editing table & in the sound design department to make the journey interesting. The casting is good and so is the make-up with the injuries looking real. The background score & the slow motion camera work accompanying the stunts are bound to please even the fastidious. The camera movement is extremely well choreographed in one particular sequence when the suspect falls down after being hit on the head.

However, one has to accept that this short film has the looks of a pilot shoot of one particular sequence in a gangster-cop thriller rather than a single product. It is safe to say that it is more of a technical show-reel rather than an acting or directorial achievement.
