What’s Hot

  • Rajkumar Hirani takes story-telling and logical reasoning to a whole new level. Any neutral movie appreciator would be totally in awe of this film and the dialogues that have been penned. Abhijit Joshi & Sreerag Nambiar tag up with Raju Hirani to take us through an exquisite journey with an unique take on the Almighty and the faith of people. It always is a sensitive topic in a secular country like India and it takes real guts to tread such a fine line and one can do nothing but wonder how the trio has pulled it off with such finesse. The fact that they have been able to make us laugh at ourselves by posing simple questions on the system that we ourselves have created & are a part of it every day, is an achievement in itself.
  • If writing a script is one uphill task, pulling it off on the screen and keeping the audiences entertained is another mountain altogether that cannot be trekked by novices. Aamir Khan does complete justice to the script and his acting is the sole medium that has provided life to this outstanding script. His child-like prying and innocence amply supplemented with wide eyes and rebel-like attitude challenges the societal and religious structures that encourage bigotry and distrust. He posts questions that many dare to mouth and provides wholesome entertainment while pinning an important message to the core.
  • Saurabh Shukla & Boman Irani have been aptly cast and play their roles with relative ease and coziness. Saurabh as the fake Godman, is fantastic with his minute devious expressions that are really elevate his scenes with Aamir.
  • Anushka Sharma with less hair, more charm and a surgically-enhanced pout compliments Aamir and ends up earning everyone’s applause with her blasé acting skills. Her pairing with Sushant Singh Rajput looks fresh. Sanjay Dutt, who always gets something special in Raju Hirani’s movies doesn’t disappoint either.
  • Shantanu Moitra, Ajay-Atul and Ankit Tiwari have made sure that the background score and numbers don’t take anything away from this flick and provide us numbers that are worth humming and stay on your lips even after you step out of the theatre.

What’s Not

  • While the film surprises in the first half and entertains on the whole, it turns preachy & repetitive in the second half. There are very intelligent & interesting questions asked just like in other films of Hirani but this one has to be rated pretty low when compared to the standards set by the Munnabhai series.

Verdict Stamp

A movie that starts off like it might be just another romantic flick takes an interesting turn once Aamir Khan’s screen presence is felt and turns into a mirror of our society posing some really interesting (read tough) questions. It sure conveys a message that does make one think about his/her beliefs and the importance that we have given middlemen who act as intermediaries between God and the masses, ending on the need to foster humanity.
