What’s Hot

  • Imran Khan is in his comfort zone playing this role. Kareena Kapoor looks dignified in her role as a social activist. The maturity in her face and her costumes are clearly visible.
  • Shraddha Kapoor is cute and petite as ever. The Aashiqui2 girl has a decent role in the 1st half and scores well. Even though Imran and Shraddha don’t look like Tamil Brahmins they have been shown sensibly in good spirit. Imran’s appearance in the ‘Kashi Yaatra’ scene is sure to make you smile.
  • Thankfully Tamilians haven’t been spoofed and their culture / practices are in fact shown lightheartedly and enjoyably. The scenes leading to the marriage are one big family affair and they have been shown well. A bit of research has gone into these segments and it shows.
  • ‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi gets a meaty role as Imran’s dad and his way of talking Hindi is perfectly in line with what you would expect out of a Tamilian. Good casting! Imran’s mom also comes across convincingly with her accent and enjoyable little comments such as ‘Sardar Da Turban Da’
  • The film is high on production value which is what one would expect from a Karan Johar production. Mahes Limaye’s camera showcases the grand South Indian wedding in all its splendor.
  • A few of the songs are hummable with ‘Dil Duffer’ taking the cake as the best of the lot.
  • What’s Not

    • Imran Khan doesn’t deliver anything beyond the ordinary. His chocolate boy looks, the right connections and a few endearing reactions have taken him this far but for how many more years?
    • The second half nosedives, as it is a territory which has been charted by many movies before this. Though, Imran refers to his Mamu’s Lagaan, it is more a Swades than Lagaan.

Tried and tested romance flick which works to an extent thanks to the lead actors and the enjoyable Tamil household setting.
