What’s Hot
- Vishal’s characterization is a major plus and despite being a solid action hero, he has accepted to do this role where he has to stammer and is really timid when faced with danger. Towards the end, the heroic turn in his character is natural and well presented. Great show by the actor and a gutsy move to produce this one too.
- Bharathiraja’s performance is realistic and will surely tug at your heartstrings. His casting is a major boost to the movie. Lakshmi Menon is cute and endearing. Her romance portions with Vishal are refreshing and understated.
- Vikranth plays a neat cameo and his body-language is marvelous. Soori as the friend of the protagonist is present throughout the film. Since there are no over-the-top comedy scenes allotted specifically to him, his role gels well with the script.
- The villains are menacing as the typical Madurai rowdies and they perform brilliantly to make the audience unanimously root for the underdogs. Sharath Lohitashwa as the primary antagonist deserves a special mention.
- Imman’s background music is terrific and lifts the overall movie viewing experience. He has delivered songs which are melodious, fiery and peppy too.
- Director Suseenthiran has come out with two really diverse movies this year (2013) and he is as prolific and versatile as they come. The story is of typical revenge but the director’s presentation has novelty and is racy.
- Madhie’s work on the camera gives the movie a raw and gritty look. In one particular pivotal chase scene at the bus stand, his camera work gives the scene the necessary edge and chaos.
What’s Not
- Even though Lakhsmi Menon looks cute and performs adequately, her role has very limited scope in the film.
- The ‘Kalaichify’ number featuring Lakshmi Menon, surely needs chopping as it robs the movie of some pace towards the climax.
- Though Vishal rocks in the climax fight sequence, the events following the climax sequence could have been handled better.
