What’s Hot
- Director Anucharan has made an impressive debut with this gripping narrative backed up by the support in writing offered by Manikandan of Kaaka Muttai fame. The detailing of the characters right from the protagonist, his family, the policemen etc. make them all seem purposeful and very close to reality.
- Kathir who plays the inquisitive hero comes up with a fine portrayal and is a talent to look for. Charlie is back after a hiatus and gets a plum role which he exploits well. Reshmi Menon, though having not much to do, deserves to be commended for playing the role of a mother.
- There is a sense of captivation that the profession of the protagonist instills in us & that has been retained through the film’s course with some fine episodes involving the functioning of the state Police. The family angle also is explored sufficiently through the female characters who represent the lower middle class archetypes.
- The director goes the way of Alphonse Putharen, editing his own film, and cuts some slack (run time of under 2 hours) to add pace to the action-filled mid segment of the narrative. Arul Vincent’s camera-work gets highlighted in the outdoor shots in the night (Interval & the climax chase in particular)
- Stunts look believable. Though the climax is contrived, the nice ending shot depicting the reality of the commoner in the world dominated by accomplices of money and power, reminds us of Jayamkondaan
What’s Not
- In the first few minutes, the lack of purpose distracts us to the low-budget nature of the flick and makes us take our time to settle down.
- The pre-climax twist comes a tad too early and gives way for a contrived less-punchy climax that extends for more than the length it deserves and doesn’t give the desired effect.
- K’s music doesn’t add a lot of value to the proceedings. The songs fall flat and the background score too isn’t all that imaginative.
