Our Indian superhero is back and this time he has to save Mumbai from a large scale virus outbreak (bio war). His scientist dad Rohit also plays a pivotal role as he is involved in figuring out the antidote to this deadly virus. Kaal (with an extra-ordinary but sinister mind) and his mutants called ‘Maanvars’ (formed as a result of human-animal gene fusion) are the antagonists and they are a mighty powerful lot with deadly powers.

What’s Hot

  • The VFX work is of the highest order and a true benchmark for an Indian film.
  • The production design and props for the labs and other advanced systems used by Kaal and Rohit are again fantastic and straight out of what you see in Hollywood sci-fi flicks.
  • Some of the action set pieces are highly imaginative. Krrish helping a flight land properly and the climax encounter are two such sequences where the VFX helps the action be convincing. The sequence before the interval is also hair-raising indeed.
  • Hrithik is awesome as the super hero and is not required to strain much. His ripped physique continues to make jaws drop.
  • Kangana Ranaut’s shapely form helps her get into her tight ‘Kaya’ outfit and she is a ‘maanvar’ modeled on the chameleon. She can easily transform into other beings and the VFX helps this concept. The sudden delicate turnaround in her character is pivotal to the script and this stunning actress has nailed it. She easily outscores the main heroine, Priyanka Chopra.
  • Vivek Oberoi is mostly confined to the wheelchair but uses his telekinetic powers to wreck havoc. His voice modulation and reactions are on the mark and make him a top-notch villain.
  • Priyanka Chopra is charming and sexy as ever and just has to be chirpy and later play the damsel in distress.

What’s Not

  • The alleged plagiarization from popular Hollywood flicks.
  • Hrithik overacts as the scientist Rohit with his typically childish voice and over-enthusiasm.
  • The music by Rajesh Roshan is plain bad and the BGM score by Salim – Sulaiman is marginally better, thanks to the inclusion of some of Hans Zimmer’s template sounds.
  • The brand of dramatic acting in the movie wouldn’t appeal to all.
  • When Vivek regains his movement towards the end, he has to deal with a really weird body suit. Bad idea!
