What’s Hot

  • Ranbir Kapoor is endearing, spontaneous and energetic as ever. It’s hard not to like this man in-spite of his boisterous and loud antics.
  • Rishi Kapoor is solid and continues to deliver quality performances. He comes into his own towards the climax and in the end credits song, where he proves he still has the moves to rival his son. Even after all these years, Neetu Kapoor is a treat to watch and still retains a seductive appeal.
  • Pallavi Sharda looks pretty and plays the role given to her confidently. Ranbir and Pallavi groove to the below-average songs admirably even though there is a distinct lack of chemistry between them.
  • Javed Jaffrey as the main villain exhibits some comedic streaks and gives a decent performance.
  • The second half is much better compared to the flat first half and manages to provide some entertainment. This saves the ship from totally sinking.

What’s Not

  • Ranbir’s crass acts such as stuffing a pair of socks into his crotch, don’t necessarily delight the audience. You can here several murmurs from the audience in fact when these scenes play out.
  • Neetu Kapoor gets too loud for our liking at times.
  • The casting of all the three Kapoors is a big coup but it has been wasted.
  • Besharam’s songs by Lalit Pandit are all about beats and more noise, with little or no melody/rhythm.
  • It is silly to see Pallavi addressing Ranbir as Besharam often to remind us of the movie’s title.

Verdict Stamp

A crass and stale, masala movie which provides some entertainment, thanks to the Kapoor clan.
