Muffled voices of an evening party echo sans video. There is chatter. There is music. Then there is the cling-clang of wineglasses. After this, there is video, and then frantic groups of guys and girls, each in a car. Something has gone wrong that sees Rajvir bleeding from his eye socket and getting treatment at a hospital. Back here the three girls try to get back to normalcy. The gang of guys are now seeking redemption and set out to pursue the girl that caused the menace. As an influential family member of a tycoon, Rajvir manages to foist a case and get Minal behind bars. On comes Deepak Sehgal, a celebrated jurist, to argue Minal’s case. What happened in the party that led to this is what this movie pans out as a courtroom drama.

What’s Hot
- As we see the drama unfold in a carefully paced narrative, we get to see the kind of blatant idiosyncrasies that our society is dwelling under. Ritesh Shah deserves plaudits for careful handling of the story, its script and for enforcing the guessing game until the credit rolls.
- If you move from suburbs to a city as metropolitan as Delhi for work, there is bound to be a shift in attitude, but that doesn’t mean some basic ideals are forgotten. Taapsee has essayed Minal with such alacrity besides having to share shoulders with a subtle but classy performance from Amitabh as Deepak. The supporting cast earns its commendations too.
- Remember the beautiful opening instrumental number from Piku? Anupam Roy, its composer has joined hands with Shantanu Moitra, who is well known for his music to create an acclaimed soundtrack for Pink. Kaari Kaari is a winner that will occupy your soul!
- The technical crew, namely Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, Abhik Mukhopadhyay and Bodhaditya Banerjee have all played tune to the good setting that the movie has gotten into and sustained it to the very end.
- Amitabh’s quips in the courtroom during his questioning of witnesses and his verbal volleys with Piyush Mishra are enjoyable. There are some hard-hitting utterances that put a question or two in the audience.
What’s Not
- The story might seem really ordinary, but that is to emphasize the fact that this is a story that is commonplace in our daily life.
