What’s Hot

  • Karunakaran takes a step forward to essay the central character in the story which has no single prominent lead character. His well known casual reactions and witty responses suit his character to the bill and he has carved out quite a niche for himself in a short span of movies in Tamil Cinema.
  • Simha who has been the most promising upcoming actor, has turned over a new leaf as a seriously funny cop. His ruthless aggression lands him in awkward situations with his superior – K. S. Ravikumar who puts all his experience into action to engage the audience in a wholly enjoyable comedy along with Simha.
  • The hilarious dialogues and one-liners written for Simha and Karunakaran are simply too hard to pass off without giving out a hearty laugh. They manage to sneak into even the most serious situations created into the movie and have paid off big time. The scandalous nature of the story’s core also provides ample moments of juicy entertainment.
  • The presence of seasoned silver screen artistes like Radha Ravi and Adukalam Naren working in collaboration with Balaji Venugopal and Chetan lends a lot of to the cast. Naren’s ability to work with a comic script is again a nice changeover like his attempt in Jigarthanda.

What’s Not

  • Vijayalakshmi as Karunakaran’s wife is a visible mismatch in relation to the story line. Though her cute looks are hard to ignore and her dream to have a house with its own restroom is a case for more humour, her involvement in the script creates the need to squeeze in a couple of duets. They are plain distractions considering the fact that Karunakaran looks completely out of sorts trying to romance or dance.
  • Though the players shown indulging in spot fixing and their televised matches sport changed names like the ones we see in video games, the mentions of actual league playing city names and usage actual match footage with blurred faces is not doing enough to ensure the teams’ image is not affected. With the scandal still being probed, the kind of treatment for this sensitive subject is appalling to say the least.

Verdict Stamp

This is one riotous comedy that is also brave enough to take on the most notorious scandals to rock the nation in the recent years. Though devoid of a great story line, the kind of treatment provided ensures that the audience get their money’s worth. Pure and uncompromising fun makes this a great watch without a doubt!
