What’s Hot

  • The choice of actors for this realistic plot, set amidst the shady world of real-estate brokers & money lenders, has to be commended. The mazy plot expertly written by Manimaran (the director of Udhayam NH4) throws up some unusual situations and has been well handled by the debutant director. Hats off to Vetrimaaran & the other producers for allowing the film to be realistic with minimal amount of commercial compromises.
  • Harish as the protagonist is earnest in his portrayal as the affected engineer, Sarvanan. He shines in the scenes where he is caught between the fraud land owner, his friend and his lady love. It is also nice to see a dusky heroine after a long time & Anandhi with her expressive eyes gives a decent performance. The love track, for a change, has been handled maturely.
  • The veterans, Achyuth Kumar (of Lucia fame) who plays the ruthless money lender, Sundar, and Mohan Raman who plays the cunning real estate broker are fantastic and add lot of depth to their respective characters by their body language & dialogue modulation. Of the supporting actors, Prabhu, the friend of Harish who gets the money gives an amazing performance & is one to watch out for in the coming years. Mayilsamy is also given a key role and he delivers.
  • The camera work by Velraj (who recently directed Velaiyilla Pattathari) is pleasing on the eye especially during the love portions. The background score by Jones specifically in the second half is good and helps in the pace. Couple of songs are also hum-worthy.

What’s Not

  • The heroine’s lip sync is glaringly wrong. Also it is surprising to see this film, which is devoid of any gory violence or lewd sequences, being awarded ‘U/A’ certificate when it could easily have been ‘U’ certified.
  • It looks like the script takes a turn towards Goa just to have an item-song which could have been avoided. There are occasions in the second half where few sequences seem naïve & easily predictable. Also, if more attention could have been given to how these shady deals transpire and how documents are forged, it would have added more value to the script.
