Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru (Tamil, 2016)
In spite of many uninspired and boring periods strewn across Kadavul Irukaan Kumaru, RJ Balaji and Prakashraj are able to infuse some joy into the proceedings. One only hopes to see more of the Rajesh who wrote the talk-show sequence instead of the one who tries to blend with the trend by doing horror-comedy.
Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada (Tamil, 2016)
Gautham Menon films more often than not, stick to either the trendy college heart-throb kind of rom-com or the extremely brutal racy thriller kind. However in Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada which is a mix of both, when his protagonist is someone who rises up to confront his fears, the movie doesn’t seem to come as a fine blend. To put it simply, the coffee made seems to have a stronger dose of decoction than milk
Kodi (Tamil, 2016)
Kodi is surely not one of the usual movies for it has a script that pits the lead lady on equal terms as the protagonist while featuring good music and sporting a well-knit screenplay that works for most of the time – just enough to keep it flying past the pitfalls!
Kaashmora (Tamil, 2016)
Though Kaashmora garnered immense hype due to its historical or mythological references, it fails miserably to sustain the hype and falls well short of glory. Despite boasting of a glitterati cast, an immensely talented music director and some strong visual effects, it shines only in bits and pieces and falters overall as it fails to gather the impetus to keep the movie-watchers glued to their seats.
Ammani (Tamil, 2016)
A potential issue of contention that plagues the dependent family members commonly seen in India, is dealt with in a fine manner by the director who also dons the lead role, but the over dramatized and exaggerated situations featured are mostly unreal leading to a pretty rash and hasty ending that was not so convincing as it ought to be!
