What’s Hot
- Menacing looks and cynical retorts make Vijay Raaz, quite the natural baddie who commands instant despise for his unflinchingly villainous attitude – a role well done despite a slew of mediocre performances from his colleagues. His screen presence is so powerful that it overshadows even the protagonist, which proves he pulls off a captivating show.
- Imman Annachi makes a noticeable appearance as a head constable with a fair dose of seriousness apart from his inimitable humor quotient. Sri Divya looks smashing and angelic in her homely looks and fits the bill perfectly as the lead lady. Both of them manage to keep the momentum of their respective characters rolling even as the mood of the story changes tones in the second half of the movie.
- Anirudh continues his dream date with music as he manages to score yet another crowd pleasing album that encroaches the subconscious. Though the style of his songs and bgm are ever so predictable nowadays, they still possess the punch needed to appeal as a wholesome package which makes it a rage amongst the younger audience.
What’s Not
- Sivakarthikeyan has proved his critics right again and his portrayal as a cop is nowhere near what the character commands. Lack of charisma and over dependence on cheesy dialogues from hit movies, make him look littled for most parts and simply reaps the benefit of the good work done around him. His inadequacy at showing emotions other than love and humor is obvious with this movie having a serious issue at the core.
- The writing in Kaaki Sattai is appallingly ordinary for a cop story. The techno-geeky attempts to project it as an intelligent one, end up making a mockery of our intelligence – like the tech savvy villain who always carries a laptop to make Skype calls to make overseas deals like Smart phones are a bad omen! – Server rooms with touch screen and USB capabilities – seriously?
- The screenplay and direction leave lots to be desired as the real deal – the racket that the hero discovers is not dealt with properly in order to give a decent insight or a probable solution and is merely used as a prop to project the hero. With the role of the hero not given much impetus, the villain after so much of screen time is eventually defeated tamely only to leave the story in a limbo which finishes quite awkwardly.
