What’s Hot
- Sharwanand essays the title role of JK with decent unhurried acting which has been his forte in previous movies. The transition from a carefree JK to a responsible person striving to make it big is made convincing with some strong supportive performances from Nithya Menen who plays his love interest, Jayaprakash as their well wisher and Kitty as JK’s father – a cohesive acting display from the entire cast on the whole.
- Santhanam takes care of the customary comedy content required to engage the audience in his role as Thothadri, a close friend and business partner of JK. His one-liners when the duo try to build a business from scratch is made enjoyable with his quintessential timing. A surprise is to see Manobala in a role where he lays a more serious character than usual – a poor mute who is excellent at creative art.
- Cheran makes a comeback of sorts with this family centric story with subtle notes of optimism in the face of tragedy and loss. The story has enough substance to garner the approval of the family audience which appeals to the youth to have a more considerate approach to life and factor their dependents while making decisions, while presenting innovative business solutions for them at the same time. The direction is equally competent with glimpses of unpredictability like the role of Prakash Raj and his encounter with JK which breaks away from the usual.
- G. V. Prakash with some help from Siddarth Vipin make JK a musically appealing movie with more than a couple of pleasing songs like the romantic melody Nee enna pesuvaai… featuring the magnetic voice of Saindhavi. The background score is just enough to equally support the emotionally charged scenes that we are presented with on screen and the motivational scenes as well.
What’s Not
- The screenplay misses a trick or two by being unconvincing at places like the initial burst of success that JK achieves which seem surreal and the meteoric rise in just a few months – which seems straight out of a fairy tale and not consistent with the hard reality that forms the core of the movie. Another instance being the seemingly suspicious transformation of JK into a responsible man just to open it up for the intermission turns out predictable as we have that feeling of a flashback waiting to hit us any time ever since the transformation.
