What’s Hot

  • The title character Burma is essayed by Michael Thangadurai and he has done a decent job possessing the right body-language for such a role. His lady love Reshmi Menon looks pretty and does an adequate job. This film can prove to be a good launch pad for both of them.
  • Sampath who plays the ageing carjacker is brilliant on screen and it is refreshing to see him play a role that allows him to show his funny side. Karthik Sabesh who plays the wily & cheerful sidekick is fantastic & a delight to watch. Atul Kulkarni is also effective as the ruthless financier, Bothra Seth. A special mention to the costume designer for choosing all those eye-catching shirts.
  • The music by debutant Sudharshan is racy & perfect for a film of this genre. Every song is different from one another & they are great to hear as well setting the required mood. The editing by Vivek is sharp and it limits the film to an extremely short run-time of 99 minutes.
  • Special applause to the entire team for using ‘Pudhiya Paravai’ in the midst of a very important sequence & of course for that charming line about dogs & airplanes.

What’s Not

  • While the characters of Guna & Seth have been developed well, the same cannot be said of the other antagonists such as the rogue police officer & ladies who excel in thievery. This leads to the audience getting an incomplete feel when the film ends.
  • The modus operandi of Burma while seizes cars could have been dealt with and dissected in a more detailed fashion given the film is entirely about seizing cars. Also the way in which he hoodwinks couple of owners to get their cars seems a tad amateurish for an ace carjacker.

Burma begins with a blast throwing at us quirky characters, interesting background score & some cheeky dialogues but loses its fizz when it tries too much to build up the tension towards the end.
