Bajrangi Bhaijaan (Hindi, 2015)
Through Bajrangi Bhaijaan, its makers have proved that one can look beyond the excuse of having to make a tactless story for a commercial star & fit that star into a story that can be emotional and have ample scope for at least two other lead characters. But don’t expect a classic – there are constraints!
Masaan (Hindi, 2015)
Masaan is an audacious tale of mistakes, mishaps & redemption in life. The perfect choice of locations (Banares for letting go & Allahabad for confluence), able performances from the cast and the script replete with other symbolic subtleties make it a classic debut for its promising director.
Bombay Velvet (Hindi, 2015)
Bombay Velvet is a diligently made movie that showcases the craze for Jazz that gripped Bombay in the 60s and showcases the building blocks of what would later evolve into the notorious underworld – all this made with an uncompromising taste for style and class. Despite being dragged down by a few glitches, the fine making and some decisive acting make it a timeless wonder that one must witness to revel the experience it offers more than anything else!
Margarita With A Straw (Hindi, 2015)
The poetically named, ‘Margarita With A Straw’, treads a path less-travelled successfully with fantastic performances from Kalki Koechlin & Revathy, outstanding music by Mickey MCCleary and efficient writing by Shonali Bose.
Piku (Hindi, 2015)
Piku is yet another feather in the cap for director Shootjit Sircar who gave us Vicky Donor. If we saw enough dosage of his forward thinking with Vicky Donor, he goes one notch up with that characterizing Piku and Bhaskor with Juhi Chaturvedi. Hold on to your bowels, for, Piku is one breezy entertainer.
