What’s Hot

  • The casting is major boost to the narration. Arul Das as the nasty honcho and Rahul Venkat as his short tempered brother are quite menacing and fit the characters perfectly. Leema Babu’s petite looks are just apt as a young mom in her early teens, while Bose Venkat does a good job as the soft hearted Politico caught in dilemma between loyal subordinates and powerful superiors
  • Jakes Bejoy has done commendable work with his Music and Background score that really ups the ante in the action scenes and the build up for the arrivals of the protagonist and antagonist into a fight sequences are chilling. The melody and pathos songs too make a decent appearance on screen without creating much of disinterest
  • Aravinnd Singh makes an impressive debut as Karthi and literally overshadows Vikrant to reduce him to a second fiddle for most of the movie with his natural acting skills. The confrontations with Uma Padmanabhan are probably the best ones that showcase the talents of both Aravind and Vikrant

What’s Not

  • Paravati Nirban’s inclusion as the love interest of Vikrant is much unutilized with no romantic episodes between the two – not even a typical montage song we are used to seeing! Her character is reduced to just being a part of the scenery as a result with her doing unimportant tasks which any friend of a lead lady would do!
  • The narration loses direction at important places right from the start. The flashback at the start is so hard hitting and intense, just to be immediately followed by a friendship song which takes out the momentum. Towards the end, the fights are too prolonged and the predictable nature does not add much value as well
  • The actual core story line that revolves around the friendship between Vikrant and Aravinnd is not given enough priority when the characters’ history is established. Just one scene where Aravinnd offers food to an orphaned Vikrant is shown to establish that – which is grossly inadequate considering the intense bonding the two characters share in the story

Verdict Stamp

A fair share of thrills and a bigger share of spills prevent the movie from pressing forward for victory, and is left to keep mending the holes created by some inexplicable writing and poor conceptualization of the story - which makes ‘Thakka Thakka’ a noticeably depleted attack!
